SUNDAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS
December 24, 2017.
SUB-THEME/8: PRESERVING THE HEALING OVER THE LAND.
TOPIC: Visionary Leadership and Discipleship (Discipleship That Teaches & Keeps Revival Fire).
TEXT: II Chron. 17:1-12; Acts 2:41-42.
i) discover from scriptures, the place of teaching and visionary leadership in keeping the revival fire burning;
ii) realize the state of discipleship and leadership in the church today;
iii) Grasp the strategies for more effective discipleship and visionary leadership.
Many revivals (healings) have taken place in the history of the Church that affected cities, nations and sometimes continents and beyond. But time and again the fire of the revival died either due to some character flaws in the key figure behind the revival or a doctrinal error, causing the people to deviate from the truth. Our study focuses on the critical nature of effective teaching (discipleship) and visionary leadership in preserving the revival fire (healing) over a land, so that it does not burn out, leaving only ashes (stories of past feats).
1. a. What were the major ingredients that helped to sustain the healing in the land? II Chron. 17:1-12; 35:1-6; Acts 2:41, 42.
b. What part did visionary leadership and teaching play in each case?
c. Which leadership was more critical in these cases: secular or Church? Discuss.
2. What discipleship structures and efforts need be put in place to preserve the healing of a land? Acts 2:42; 11:22-26; 14:21-23.
3. a. How would you rate the effectiveness of the church in Nigeria today towards bringing and sustaining healing (revival) of the nation? What are your bases?
b. In what ways does the leadership (secular and church) contribute to this?
4. What steps can the Church take to ensure that we have a more focused and visionary leadership (secular and church) and that every church member is effectively discipled?
Discipleship is closing the gap to ensure the enemy has no re-entry. It is as well opening up to God for continual in-filling and strengthening so the man of God may be thoroughly furnished. Visionary leadership makes it happen and promotes it.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
True discipleship produces visionary leadership which, in turn, promotes discipleship.
