SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

December 31, 2017.

TOPIC: HEAL NIGERIA O LORD! (CHRISTIANS’ CONCEPT & COMMITMENT)

TEXT: II Chron. 7:14; Isa. 56:9-12; Jer. 6:17-21; Ezek. 33:2-9.

AIM: To

i. realize the state of the Nigerian nation and Church;

ii. discover our responsibility as believer's in bringing about the nation's healing;

iii. awaken in our hearts the cry for Nigeria to be healed.

INTRODUCTION

A cursory look at the national news today reveals a very grim picture; the range is from news of political murders, to kidnapping, to rape of minors, to stories of corruption and deceit in political circles. The church is no better as the struggle to get more members has turned the church into a shadow of itself. Consequently, the Church has lost its voice and moral authority to affect the society for good. This study challenges believers to consider the poor state of the church and the nation and to mobilize Christian to cry unto God for their healing.

STUDY GUIDE

c. Is there any connection between the two-the health of the nation and that of the church? (Discuss.)

2. What do the following passages say about our responsibility towards the nation and the church? II Chron. 7:14; Jer. 29:7; Ezek. 33:2-9; Matt. 5:13-14.

3. How do the following hinder believers from focusing on their primary spiritual responsibility to their country/church: a) Materialism;

b) Ethnicity; c) Competition; d) Doctrinal problems? What other hindrances?

CONCLUSION

Our nation is really sick and dying. The church also has grown lethargic, pursuing shadows rather than focusing on its responsibility as the salt (bringing healing) and light (showing the way) to the nation. God has set us as watchmen for the nation to cry out to Him for help and healing, when we see the nation in danger. God has also spoken saying "If my people who are called by my name will...”. We need to shake ourselves out of our present slumber and cry to God for the healing of our nation.
