i) To understand the practical concept of eternal life with God;
ii) To strive to please God so as to enter therein.
The word ‘eternal’ means “without end in time”. The Dictionary of Theology defines ‘eternal life’ as “life everlasting in the presence of God”. Eternal life with God is dwelling with God and having a very close and enduring personal fellowship with Him. Eternal life with God begins the moment a person exercises faith in Christ and receives the new birth; and continues as our current possession (Jn. 3: 36) until we reach its final state at the resurrection of believers, when Christ returns to take His Church home.

Eternal life, a gift of God that comes only through Jesus Christ, is the core benefit for a life that pleases God. We receive it by receiving Christ into our hearts as Saviour and Lord. But all who have got this life must strive to keep it by faith unto the end so as to enter the fullness of it. Be so determined!
