The amiable Venerable Bitrus Habila was born on the 10th of October 1975 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Bitrus and Sarah Habila in Kitti village, Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In 1979, Habila began his education at LEA Primary School in Kitti and at the completion of his early education in 1985 he proceeded to Government Day Secondary School GDSS in Asso also in Jama’a local government area. In 1989 he went further to Kagoro teachers college for his senior secondary education after which he got an appointment to teach with the diocese of Kafanchan for a brief period before getting a Federal appointment with Akwanga LGA in Nasarawa state.
The young Habila began his sojourn in the vineyard of God as an evangelist, his zeal to spread the word of God and win souls for Christ culminated in his quest for more knowledge of the word.
Between 1998 and 2001 he took the early step to priesthood at St. Francis College of Theology in Wusasa - Zaria, Kaduna state where he obtained a Diploma in Theology.
Theological College of Northern Nigeria TCNN in Bukuru-Jos, Plateau state was the next port of call, where he obtained a Bachelors’ Degree BD in Theology.
Venerable Habila obtained a Masters Degree in Theology (M.TH) from Crowther Theological College in Abeokuta between 2014 and 2015. He also obtained another Masters Degree in religious studies (M.A) from Ajayi Crowther University Oyo state in 2017.
Meanwhile in the course of his quest for knowledge, Venerable Habila was in 2001 ordained as Deacon in the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion and later made a full priest in 2002 in the Diocese of Abuja.
Between 2003 and 2004 he served as a chaplain to the then Suffragan Bishop of Abuja Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Eghunu who is now the Archbishop of Lokoja Diocese.
His service in the vineyard of God has seen him posted to various parishes in the Abuja Diocese up until 2005 when the Kubwa Diocese was created.
A breakdown of his postings include; St. James Asokoro where he was a Curate (2001); Holy Trinity in Mpape where he was a Vicar (2002 - 2004); All Saints Bwari where he served as Vicar (2005-2006); Christ Church, Karimu where he also served as Vicar(2006, 6 months).
In March 12, 2005 following the creation of Kubwa Diocese, Venerable Habila was appointed Chaplain to late Bishop Simon Bala, while still serving as Chaplain, he left Christ Church, Karimu to St. Bartholomew Cathedral in Kubwa where he served as Assistant priest (2006).
In October 2006 he was transferred to St. Peter’s Karu where he was preferred Canon in 2007, while he was in Karu, St. Peters was carved out as an Archdeaconry and he became the supervisory priest for Karu Archdeaconry with its headquarters in St. Peters.
In 2009, Rt. Rev. Duke Akamisoko took over as Bishop of Kubwa Diocese and Canon Habila was posted to St. Luke’s, Kuje where he was preferred Venerable and supervisory priest of Kuje Archdeaconry in 2010.
In April 2011, Venerable Habila was posted to St. Andrew’s Church, Kubwa for his first stint at the parish as Vicar and Archeadeacon, he left in June 2013 to St. Paul’s Nyanya; in 2014 he returned to St. Barth Cathedral, Kubwa where he served as Archdeacon of the Cathedral.
In September 2015 he was posted to St. John’s Lugbe where he served as Vicar and Archeadeacon and in December of the same year he was sent to Church of Holy Trinity in FHA Lugbe as vicar and Archeadeacon; in May 1 2017 he was sent back to St. Andrew’s Kubwa where he currently serves as Vicar and Archdeacon.
Venerable Habila is an energetic young man and this is mostly due to his interest in sporting activities such as football and tennis amongst other sport, his loyalty and dedication to service to God and humanity is responsible for the high esteem in which he is held by the Bishops he has worked with so far.
Venerable Habila is a bible study teacher, and an individual who believes so much in prayers as a means of relief from the troubles of the world.
He is married to Victoria Habila and they have three kids namely; Timothy, Grace and Samuel.
